It was a magical day in Medfield and not just because of the weather, which happened to be similarly spectacular. It was the day of Enchanted Spring at the Bellforge Arts Center (also known as Bellforge, or simply the ‘Forge) on Hospital Road. This event kicked off the center’s 2025 season, which is packed with concerts, events, movies, and more.
Enchanted Spring invited its younger guests to participate in a nine-station treasure hunt that culminated in a magical art activity. The theme the event, which was incorporated into the artwork, was the four elements: fire, air, water, and earth. In addition to the hunt and art, there was a face painter available, baby goats to admire, a magician, several food trucks, yard games, plenty of seating, and a handful of vendors displaying their wares.
“You couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather,” a parent commented while their child was taking a turn petting the goats. “Especially after all the rain we’ve been getting. I guess today really is pretty magical!”
Bellforge is a dream that became reality in 2020, when a portion of the grounds of the former Medfield State Hospital was leased from the town for 99 years. A team of dedicated staff, board members, and volunteers have been working hard to transform the space into a unique arts and entertainment venue. This vision includes a variety of events - most of them free - throughout the spring, summer and fall season, as well as fundraising for future plans.
The cooperative art project from Enchanted Spring will be showcased at the Illuminate Lantern Parade and End of Season Celebration on October 25, 2025. For a full list of concerts, festivals and celebrations, as well as a link for donations, visit www.bellforge.org.
