The most recent additions in the video series “Let’s Go Farming” adopt the perspectives of two Community Support Agriculture (CSA) farms to see and hear their views regarding benefits of local agriculture. In this two-part series, Tangerini Farm is visited to understand the viewpoint of a primarily organic vegetable and fruit CSA through discussions with the co-owner, managers, workers, food aggregator, and customers, and a tour around the picturesque farm in Millis. We learn student workers not only obtain excellent seasonal jobs, but gain in other ways, such as developing good work practices beneficial for their entire lives and communication skills with a broad diversity of people encountered on the farm.
In the second part, a different perception of local agriculture is introduced on the role of livestock (e.g., chickens, pigs, sheep and goats) in an organically-certified CSA at the beautiful Clark Farm in Carlisle through a walking tour and discussions with the farm manager. The show highlights the synergetic relationship between growing livestock and growing fruits and vegetables that enhances quality and nutritional value while achieving higher efficiency through recycling and utilizing virtually all of the outputs.
