“A special treat on a cold Saturday,” one library-goer writes in the guest book at the Medfield Public Library’s Art ‘N Bloom. “It’s dreary out, but beautiful inside.”

From Thursday, March 22, to Sunday, March 25, the library housed 19 pieces of art from Medfield High School students and a corresponding floral arrangement created by members of the Medfield Garden Club. Art ‘N Bloom has been a tradition for the past twenty years, and always adds to the excitement of springtime after a long, cold winter.

Outside of the Dailey Room, Medfield High senior Audrey Sullivan’s “Ink Clouds” attracted the attention of library goers. The digital photography print’s orange color scheme was complemented by Martina Leger’s floral arrangement, which added purple, white, and off-white flowers to the bright orange ones sprouting from a spherical container.

Medfield High senior Kaitlyn Maritan’s acrylic painting “Trompe l’oeil/Objects” offered library goers a look at various objects – like crumpled paper, leaves, a keychain, and ribbon – painted onto a soft blue background. Beautifully matching the colors of each object were the assortment of flowers chosen and arranged by Linda Moses.

The exhibit was not exclusively for high school seniors, though. Students from grades nine through 12 were featured in Art ‘N Bloom and showcased their work in a variety of media. Many students used acrylic and watercolors to create their pieces, but a handful of the artists created digital drawings.

Sophomore Aiveen Pidcock presented her needlepoint talents with an embroidery piece entitled “J Law,” which was interpreted with a modern red vase and red flowers.

Several of the Medfield Garden Club members took it upon themselves to do more than one interpretation, like Linda Moses. She perfectly recreated a floral version of junior Lauren Mileti’s “Flowers,” a watercolor piece with calming blues, reds, and greens, which brightened the entrance of the library.

With such a diverse collection of art and fresh, beautiful flower arrangements to accent them, Art ‘N Bloom once again helped the community celebrate the artistic talents that lie in Medfield while ringing in spring.
