Despite a gentle snow falling outside, The Medfield Public Library (MPL) was bustling on Sunday, January 14th. Of particular interest was the activity in the Children’s Room, where kids could be seen coming and going with a stuffed animal clutched to their chest. Some of the young guests looked somber or concerned on behalf of their stuffy, and some looked cheerful and excited to see what was going to transpire.
The children, and their special toys, were there for the Teddy Bear Clinic, a sweet and enjoyable first-time event at the library. After making an appointment with MPL’s Head of Children’s Services, Miss Andrea, the patients and their owners were escorted into the clinic area. Here they were seen by Dr. O or Dr. Deb, who gave them a full wellness exam. This included eyes, nose, ears, questions about health and well-being, and yes, in some cases, a shot.
This program was geared towards children ages two to six with an adult, and no registration was required. Dr. Deb and Dr. O, who were very professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly, reported a steady stream of visitors throughout the clinic’s hours of 1-4 p.m. Luckily for the patients, wait times were quite minimal.
Though the first clinic for stuffed animals at the library, it was certainly not the first time stuffed animals were welcomed at the library. “We do often have a Stuffed Animal Sleepover,” Miss Andrea said. “There’s one next month, on February 12th. The children come with their favorite lovey for a story time, then leave them at the library for a sleepover. You wouldn’t believe the mischief they get into!” Miss Andrea explained that registration is required for his event so that the library can provide a link to view photos of what transpired during the sleepover.
MPL is a treasure trove of fun engaging and activities for children. It boasts an impressive event calendar, with something going on almost every day, seven days a week. To view the calendar or register for an event, visit MedfieldPublicLibrary.org.
