We Remember Our Veterans open house

In honor of Veterans Day, the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds hosted their “We Remember Our Veterans” Open House this past Wednesday, November 9th. All were welcomed to explore the building while enjoying some light refreshments and a musical performance.

The Registry of Deeds became a packed house as Veterans and their families filtered in and out throughout the evening. Upon arrival, each guest was given a newly released copy of their third volume of Notable Lands Records titled “We Remember Our Veterans.” This booklet was a dedication to all veterans, past, present and future, and included all of those who have served within the towns of Norfolk County.

Also within this booklet, Norfolk County Register of Deeds, William P. O’Donnell, wrote a formal statement about what this booklet and open house is meant to represent for this county. He stated, “The stories within this book of veterans from twenty eight communities that comprise Norfolk County are meant to commemorate and to be representative of the stories of all veterans. It is very important to acknowledge the service of veterans and thank each veteran for that service. It was not lost on me as someone who is responsible for land records of peoples’ homes that some of these veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation did not get the opportunity to own a home or pursue a career or have children. It is my hope that this book reminds each of us that the sacrifices, commitment and resolve to answer the call of duty made by veterans should never be forgotten.”

Upon entering the open house, an array of signs were posted around the room of presidents from our county, the history of our National Anthem, the history of Memorial and Veterans Day, blown up pages from the booklet, and more. Guests were invited to travel around the room and read about each.

As an added bonus, the musical group The Madgricals from Norwood High School put on an incredible musical performance for everyone. This was their second time performing at the Registry of Deeds and guests were thrilled to hear their amazing voices.

This open house was the perfect opportunity to honor our veterans with the utmost respect for what they have done not only within our county, but also within our country. On behalf of Hometown Weekly Newspaper, we would like to say thank you to all veterans for their continued  service and dedication.
