Nestled on a side road that bears the farm’s namesake, Powisset Farm in Dover serves as both a scenic getaway and a hub of agriculture-related activity.

All summer long, Thursdays have featured the “Beet Brunch,” taking place from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The brunch features a story hour followed by a kid’s craft. It serves as the perfect way to keep kids occupied while parents pick up their CSA and tend to their plots.

Food is also plentiful on the farm, and is often featured in its activities. The last Friday of every month has featured “Friday Farm dinners” that take place outside and use produce from Powisset. There is more than fresh food on offer at these events, though, with live bluegrass music, beer and wine on sale and lawn games set up for kids.

“The last one is on August 26th with Blazing Hearth Pizza,” said Nicole Nacamuli, the Trustee who oversees Powisset programs. “It’s a mobile wood fire pizza oven based in Medfield, and they will be using some vegetables from the farm.”

Other dining events include a “BYO” picnic and astronomy night on Friday, August 12, and a potluck dinner on August 14, both of which will surely include fresh produce from the farm. Wednesdays during the summer have also seen groups of young campers come down from the Hale reservation, when they rotate between activities in the fields and kitchen at Powisset. The kids have made a variety of foods with the fresh produce, such as zucchini muffins, beet pesto, and strawberry shortcake.

Nest to Table programs show kids how to handle chickens, as well as cook simple dishes like scrambled eggs. Cooking classes are held regularly in the kitchen at the farm and are geared toward young and old.

There is yoga Tuesday nights and meditation Thursday mornings, and the physical activities don’t stop there. The farm organizes a hike in conjunction with the Hale reservation called the “Tri-Town Hike,” which will take place in November. Runners also congregate at the farm twice yearly for the trail run that starts and ends at Powisset while taking runners through the Noanet woodlands. One race is on Memorial Day and the other is on October 23.

Programs a plenty will keep Powisset farm a hub of activity, and the stewardship of dedicated Trustees like Nicole will keep it a beautiful spot to visit.
