As part of Sherborn’s 350th celebration, the Farm Pond Advisory Committee held a beautifully planned event called Water & Fire at Farm Pond. The event took place on September 22 to recognize the autumnal solstice with fire pits ablaze in the water, lovely, peaceful music on the sound system, and great family entertainment to the delight of all.
The weather held up for just about all the evening, with the sun shining at first and then darker clouds moving in, showing a wide portion of a rainbow over the pond.
Kids played in the sand with toys from the community toy box, adults chatted and contemplated the serene scene, walking with friends and children along the water. Some took turns sitting on the lifeguard’s chair for a high-level view of the festivities.
The entertainment began with members of the Eastern Acrobatics and Circus from Natick. A woman amazed the crowd with her handstands, backbends, and other acrobatic tricks and a man ably juggled colored four colored balls. The entertainers added an element of spectacle and wonder to the evening.
Next, the young band Gogli Apparatus, including bass, guitar, and drums, performed great contemporary rock music, including selections from the Stone Temple Pilots, Boston, and others. The crowd gathered around to watch the band. Young girls lined up at the front to jump, dance, and twirl to the music, like mini groupies.
As the evening moved on to dusk, rain started to fall gently at first and then heavier. Gogli Apparatus was playing, but they had to cut their performance short. The attendees walked back to their cars, along a path lit with magical, decorated luminaries, while remembering a lovely evening, spent in a wonderful natural setting by the pond, that resonated with spectacle and song.
