On December 19th, varsity girls’ basketball went to Medfield for their third game of the season. This was after their 50–44 win against Northbridge High School on the 12th and their 34–65 loss at Medway on the 16th. This matchup with Medfield was going to be tough, the Warriors having won the Division 2 Championship in March for the second year in a row. Last season, the Raiders and Warriors faced each other twice, Medfield winning both times, 77–35 in December and 75–21 in February.

Early in the first quarter, senior Monica Gibbs faked and then scored a layup before making both of her foul shots a few minutes later. Sophomore Addisyn Murphy fought for and won a rebound in the second quarter and freshman Sonali Koo hit a jump shot. Gibbs was granted two more foul shots, missing the first but draining the second. Koo took a 3-point shot that didn’t go in but she went hard after the rebound. With seven seconds left in the half, Gibbs squeaked in one more basket.
Entering the second half, the Raiders were facing a daunting score of 9–54. Monica Gibbs made a layup and sophomore Rory Hartnett rebounded another shot while managing to keep the ball inbounds. On one play, Addisyn Murphy and senior Jazmin Hancock were all over a Medfield player bringing down the ball and a minute later Hancock made a shot from under the basket. The Raiders had a particularly great play near the end of the quarter when senior Emily Darin cut to the basket and Gibbs passed it to her for a layup.

In the fourth quarter, Captain Meredith Gibbs made a few shots, bringing the score up to 20–70. She then swooped in for a steal in the Dover-Sherborn end and brought the ball down the court, putting in a layup. Hancock had a good rebound as the game drew to a close, and in the final 30 seconds, the Raiders scored the final basket, ending the game with a final score of 27–78.
Their game followed the same matchup between the boys’ varsity teams, which ended in a 46–58 loss for the Raiders. Last season, the Raiders were 8–12 and the Warriors were 12–8. The boys’ next game will be at Ashland High School—who last year were 2–18 and beaten by the Raiders 75–29—on Tuesday at 6:00.
As for the girls, the Raiders will have a rematch against the Warriors at home on February 3rd but their next game will be at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School at 11:00am on Tuesday. Last season, Dennis-Yarmouth was 14–6 but lost to Dover-Sherborn 30–44. The Raiders’ full schedule can be found at: www.arbiterlive.com.
