Teammate Project collecting for hurricane victims

[ccfic caption-text format="plaintext"]

The Teammate Project is actively collecting youth baseball equipment for donation to weather ravaged communities in the US and the Caribbean.

The Teammate Project was founded by the three Gately brothers in Dover to reclaim gently-used baseball equipment and get it to youth programs in underserved communities in the US and the Caribbean. The Teammate Project was founded in 2010 to encourage children to experience the joy and lessons of sport with an emphasis on social inclusion, leadership skills and promotion of mentor relationships.

Equipment drives occur regularly during the year, accepting contributions year round from families from Dover and Sherborn. Jack Gately has run the local contributions for the last three years and expanded The Teammate Project's web presence and physical outreach to include neighboring towns and regional Park and Recreation Departments. Inspired to fill the need that will inevitably come from the recent disasters in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean, Jack partnered with Dover Park and Recreation's Mark Ghiloni to sort and donate a cache of baseball bats and catcher's equipment to be redistributed to those most in need.

IMG_1792The Teammate Project will host a collection drive at Dover Sherborn High School - where Jack Gately is a senior and younger brother Will is a freshman - in late September. The used equipment drive dates will be announced in DS school email blasts and via Dover Sherborn Youth Baseball postings. Members of the community are invited to make donations any time.
