Summer is here, and the Sherborn Council on Aging (COA) is celebrating with cornhole. The classic bean bag toss game is a summer staple and adds friendly competition to gatherings. This bracket of cornhole was the perfect summer fun for the COA community.
Hosted at the Sherborn Public Library, "Cornhole and Pizza" was a gathering of COA members to enjoy summer activities. Originally, the event was slated to be held on the back lawn, but it was moved inside due to the extreme heat. Inside the community room in the basement of the library, a cornhole competition took place between friends and strangers.
Before the tournament started, there was pizza and conversation. The tables were filled with people reconnecting with friends and making new ones. Participants planned their strategies and found partners for the competition. Sherborn Police Chief Thomas Gavin even stopped by briefly to check in with the attendees. Members of the COA spoke highly of their chief and his engagement with them.
After lunch, it was time to play cornhole. Members lined up with their partners as one person kept score. Those waiting for their turns acted as referees and made up their own rules. With no prizes on the line, this friendly competition served as a way for the community to come together and beat the heat.
After the first rounds of bean bag tossing, a winner's bracket began. Eight teams turned into four and then the final two. Two friends took home the prize: bragging rights. Everyone celebrated and congratulated the duo before returning to their seats to finish conversations. Summer plans and the best places for ice cream were discussed. Stories were shared about playing outdoor games when they were younger and how much fun they had today.
The Sherborn Council on Aging does a great job getting their community involved with different activities. They focus on engaging everyone with accessible programs that incorporate social and physical elements. Their "Cornhole and Pizza" event was no exception and was packed with fun for everyone participating.
