Sherborn resident, Ava Dye, recently earned the title of Miss Amazing Teen of Massachusetts, an honor that recognizes confidence, communication and personal achievement among girls and women with disabilities. The program celebrates each participant’s abilities while fostering self-esteem, independence and leadership skills.
“Ava’s experience with Miss Amazing over the past 10 years has been life-changing, “ said mom, Kathy Horigan Dye. “Helping all of these girls and women see what they are capable of and building their confidence is incredibly important. Miss Amazing gives them the platform to practice public speaking and performing on stage in front of a large audience -- it is truly priceless and has helped Ava become the Amazing Teen that she is today.”
With the title of Miss Amazing Teen from Massachusetts, Ava will travel with her mom and a helper to Chicago from July 24-27 to participate in the Miss Amazing National event, where delegates from across the country come together for workshops, mentorship and a national celebration of empowerment. There is also a super fun pajama party and red carpet finale which makes the national event that much more special for all the girls.
This special opportunity comes with travel and participation expenses that total over $2,400 so to help make the journey possible, and with the urging of Miss Amazing National Leadership, all of the participants are asked to set up a fundraising page to seek support.
“We are so proud of her and all her hard work, and want to give her this opportunity, especially this year when her father passed away after a two-year illness stemming from his service in the Military,” Horigan Dye said. “Any and all support is meaningful to us.”
Ava’s winning presentation honors her father’s memory and showcases her “Amazing Life” from birth through 2026 as a successful and happy Dover-Sherborn High School freshman where she is a member of the Fall & Spring track & field team, a full member of the Fall Musical and Spring Drama Productions, a year-long member of the High School Chorus and Fall Volleyball team. Ava is also a Sherborn LEO and an active member of the Special Olympics, earning two gold medals this past weekend at swim Qualifiers and will be heading to Harvard University to compete in the State Special Olympics in June. Ava’s life is full and fulfilling thanks to the many people who work with her and assist her in her numerous endeavors every single day. She is thankful to each and every one of them.
