Pandemic brings Dover transfer station changes

The Dover Recycling Committee has suspended sales of all recycling bins, rain barrels and composters during the COVID-19 pandemic. Transfer station sticker applications are also suspended.

Residents should continue to sort and clean their recyclables and deposit them in the appropriate containers. All high touch areas are closed, including the Swap Shop, deposit trailer, and book and textile bins. Glass, metals, plastics, cardboard, paper, bulk items, household trash and food waste containers are accessible without any contact.

The transfer station is experiencing increased levels of household trash due to reduced recycling and residents using this time to clean out their homes. The committee recommends reusable items be offered for reuse through Freecycle.org, Nextdoor.com and the Dover Facebook page. Residents who have the room to store reusable items should do so until non-profits reopen, as there will be a huge need for household items and clothing.

Separation of food waste is encouraged and disposal barrel lids remain open during operating hours. All food must be bagged. Residents may use any type of bag - plastic, paper or compostable. The town recommends the use of compostable bags. Dover’s food waste is converted to renewable energy.

As with all public spaces, social distancing (minimum 6 feet) must be maintained at all times and cars must park in every other spot.
