Girl Scouts compete in Racer Rally

Sherborn Girl Scouts competed in a “Racer Rally” competition on February 4. In this design and engineering activity - in the tradition of the beloved Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby - the girls and their families built small race cars that each had to be 5 ounces or under, then sent them down an electronically-timed track.

The competitors received awards for speed and design. Made in a variety of shapes out of wood and sporting vibrant paint jobs, stickers, and in some cases even candy-wrappers, the girls creativity was apparent.

Design awards were received by Lexi Gentile (2nd grade), Elke Wiemeyer (3rd grade), Sara Worcester (4th grade), Niamh Sharpe (5th grade). The fastest cars to run the track were created by Piper Abbett (2nd grade), Olivia Rai (3rd grade), Dagny Abbett (4th grade) and Katie Murray (5th grade). The Girl Scouts were grateful to the Cub Scout Leadership, and in particular to Bryan Neyenhouse, who kept the photo-finish timing system running for the competition.
