A beaming crowd of family and friends looked on last Thursday as Dover-Sherborn’s class of 2022 walked at a wonderful graduation ceremony.
Students were likely anticipating a late-spring scorcher on their June graduation date, but the cooler temperature and cloudy sky let them shine without any sweat. The event was graced by several impressive musical performances by Dover-Sherborn students, including a cappella renditions of “Here Comes The Sun” by The Beatles, “I Lived” by Imagine Dragons, and “On My Way” by Phil Collins.
A highlight of the evening was the roster of heartfelt speeches delivered by both faculty and students. Seniors looked on fondly as their classmates gave remarks reflecting on shared experiences in the past and humbly offered their advice for the future.
A stand-out moment amongst the speeches was during that of declamation finalist Kai Abbett, who paid a moving tribute to classmate Owen Bingham, who tragically passed away in February. Kai and other members of the DSHS class of 2022 made sure that Owen’s presence was felt on Thursday, and this show of love and solidarity amongst the class made the ceremony a very special moment in his memory. All attendees of this graduation could feel the love that this community had for Owen, and the graduating students celebrated with him in their hearts.
Undoubtedly, the students of the Dover-Sherborn class of 2022 are a group to be proud of, and Thursday’s ceremony proved this to be true in many ways. The most stylish way, surely, was the array of meticulously decorated graduation caps amongst the student body. However, these caps looked best when they were taken off: what can only be assumed as the most anticipated part of the ceremony for DSHS seniors came at the end, when the class of 2022 circled up, counted down, and threw their caps in the air in a final act of unity.
