Kraft Hall in Dover was close to full on Tuesday, November 7, as people from across Dover gathered to hear their neighbors’ thoughtful assessments of the 12 months that have passed since President Trump was elected.

Long time Dover resident Charlie Long gave his review of the regulatory environment; Gus Coldebella (former acting General Counsel at the Dept of Homeland Security) spoke on security and immigration issues; and Chuck Debevoise assessed the foreign relations aspects of the Trump administration. Each speech was followed by questions from the audience that illustrated a diversity of opinion. It turned out to be a stimulating evening and a respectful exchange of opinion.

A large contingent of seniors from Dover Sherborn High School attended, as they wanted to explore what a local grassroots political discussion looked like. They played a very active role in the questions and discussions. Although not all Republicans by any means, their feedback about the experience was very positive.

One student, Drew Sveen, commented: “Attending the Dover Republican Town Committee's event opened my eyes to the lively political discussion here in Dover. As a DSHS student taking U.S. Government, this was a valuable experience for me to voice my political opinion and learn about current issues from many different viewpoints in real time. I now realize how grassroots events like this are a vital part of political process. The discussion welcomed anyone’s opinion in a fair and accepting manner, no matter his or her political knowledge. Having had this experience, I’m eager to take part in future DRTC events and I’d encourage anyone to do the same.”

“I was delighted to see the strong attendance for the event and feel this speaks clearly to the appetite locally for civil and thoughtful political discussions,” said Grant Stephen, Chair of the Dover Town Republican Committee. “This gives just a taste for the sort of events the Dover RTC will hold in the future.”

The Dover RTC Holiday Party will be held on December 13 and promises to be a very enjoyable evening for everyone.
