Little one’s and their families were in for a special treat this past Friday, October 27th, as Powisset Farms hosted their “Boo in the Barnyard” Halloween event! Everyone was welcome to come dressed up in their costumes for trick or treating and other amazing activities.
The weather could not have been more perfect as crowds filled the farm grounds. This beautiful sunny and seventy degree day made for the best afternoon to wear your costume!
Once checked in, everyone was briefed on all the festivities going on around the farm. There were trick or treating stations set up all over the place, from the store inside to back towards the barn where the animals were kept. Once you gathered all your candy, there was an exciting pumpkin scavenger hunt for kiddos to participate in.
For this scavenger hunt, everyone was given a piece of paper with six pictures on them. Hidden around the farm were pumpkins with these exact pictures painted onto each. Upon finding all the hidden pumpkins, little ones would hand in their sheet to get a prize!
When trick or treating and the scavenger hunt were checked off the list, one could take a stop by the Halloween crafting station. Here, you could create your very own pumpkin bag using old newspapers, a paper bag, markers, construction paper, and ribbon.
After crafting your souvenir pumpkin bag, one could go play games, like pumpkin bowling towards the barn, or you could catch a ride on the hayride. This hayride left every twenty minutes or so from the entrance of the running tracks, and you could actually sit on bales of hay during your ride.
All of this excitement certainly made people hungry but the staff at Powisset Farms planned for this! On the menu was brick oven pizza, hot dogs, pumpkin cookies, popcorn, cider, beer, wine, and more.
Many Trustees members could be seen on site, wearing costumes of their own and helping out where needed. One Trustees staff member, D.A. Hayden was seen in her incredible pumpkin costume, helping families check into the event. When speaking with her about this Halloween extravaganza, she stated, “Halloween is the number two holiday after Christmas. So these children are wearing their costumes for two weeks which is incredible. When I was growing up, we only got to wear our Halloween costumes for one night and that was it. So it is events like these that we love to host because it is easy to see just how much kids love to wear their costumes as much as they can. An added bonus is for them to check out the animals and all we have here on site. It is just so great to see and be a part of.”
There was certainly no lack of smiles and delight at this “Boo in the Barnyard” event. No one left empty handed, and most importantly, kiddos got to trick or treat more than once this year!
