The 13th Annual Bill’s Pizzeria 5K Road Race to benefit The Travis Roy Foundation will take place on Sunday, October 28, at 9:00 a.m. at the Mason Rice School in Newton Centre.
The event promises to be a fun day for the entire family. It features a beautiful scenic course in the heart of Newton Centre. Runners are encouraged to come in costume, and to bring the kids for the Energy Spooky Sprint that will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Immediately following the race there will be an awards party at Bill’s Pizzeria, where participants will enjoy live music, free pizza and have the opportunity to meet Travis Roy.
The Travis Roy Foundation was established in 1997 to help spinal cord injury survivors and to fund research toward a cure. Bill’s Pizzeria has an especially personal connection to the mission of the foundation. In 2005, owner Dean Chronopoulos’ brother Taso was paralyzed in a car accident. Furthermore, in 2017, former employee and friend Alex Rosenburg of Newton Centre also endured a spinal cord injury. This life-altering event for Alex and his family reaffirmed Bills mission to find a cure.
What started as a neighborhood race to raise awareness has turned into a highly anticipated city and neighboring town wide health and wellness event. The Bills 5K road race has drawn thousands of runners and raised over $300K in contributions and donations to help those living with spinal cord injuries.
Dean Chronopolous and his family have been residents of Dover since 1995.
