Walpole youth sports welcomed back baseball season as the Walpole Little League’s annual opening day parade kicked off through downtown Walpole.
Hundreds of kids from various youth sports donned their uniforms and met behind town hall before embarking on the parade down Main Street.
Many spectators took the opportunity to enjoy the sunny, warm weather, as plenty of people packing the sidewalks to watch. The kids who watched the parade had an extra treat in store for them as well, as the athletes in the parade threw candy and sweets into the crowd for those watching the parade to catch.
As the parade ended in the Stone Street recreation fields, the little leaguers made their way to the baseball field to officially begin the baseball season. After speeches from the Walpole Little League and new Walpole High varsity baseball head coach Chris Costello, the young athletes tossed their caps in the air and welcomed in a new season.
The celebration was not over with the parade, however. Later in the evening, the first baseball games of the new season were played, with three games played to mark the opening day of a new baseball season.
