Medfield police chief placed on paid leave

Medfield Police Chief Michelle Guerette has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an administrative investigation into alleged violations of Police Department policies, the town announced Sept. 23.

The town has hired an outside investigator to conduct the investigation and said it reserves the right to take whatever action it determines is appropriate based on the findings.

“The Town of Medfield is firmly committed to maintaining the highest standards for its law enforcement personnel,” the town said in a statement. “We take all allegations of misconduct with the utmost seriousness and handle them in accordance with established policies and procedures.”

The town did not provide details about the alleged policy violations and said it would not comment further because the matter involves a personnel issue. The town also said it will continue to comply with all Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission requirements related to the investigation.

Guerette has served as Medfield’s police chief since 2019. Before joining the Medfield Police Department, she served as a captain with the Providence Police Department in Rhode Island.

During Guerette’s leave, the Medfield Police Department will operate under its existing command structure. The town said there will be no disruption to public safety or police services.

The investigation remains ongoing.
