The Gazebo Players of Medfield will present William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” August 1 and 2 at Music Court in Bird Park, Walpole. In case of rain, performances will move to Footlighters Playhouse, 2 Scout Road, Walpole. Both performances begin at 5 p.m.
As part of the company’s 24th annual Summer Shakespeare in the Park tour, this year’s production reimagines the classic comedy as a modern-day reality TV dating show while preserving Shakespeare’s original language. The production follows the drama surrounding Bianca, a charming and glamorous contestant searching for love, and Kate, whose fiery personality is challenged when she meets her match.
Directed by Steve Small, the production stars Krishan Oberoi as Petruchio and Kelly McGowan as Katherine. The outdoor performances offer audiences an evening of live theater under the summer sky.
Performances are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets for seating. Advance registration is encouraged to help organizers prepare for attendance.
The Summer Shakespeare in the Park tour is supported in part by grants from the Medfield, Canton and Walpole Cultural Councils, local agencies supported by the Mass Cultural Council. Weather updates and additional information are available through the Gazebo Players of Medfield website and Facebook page.
Founded in 2002, the Gazebo Players of Medfield is a nonprofit community theater organization dedicated to presenting free outdoor Shakespeare productions each summer and is a member of the Medfield Cultural District.
