Eric Nelson

August 21, 1953 - July 21, 2026

Heaven welcomed home a faithful servant, a man whose life was defined by his love for God, his devotion to prayer and studying scripture, and his dedication to his family. On July 21, 2026, Eric Clifford Nelson (72) passed away unexpectedly while doing something he loved: going for a run.

Eric was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal brother, and faithful friend. Some of Eric’s greatest joys came through the simple moments of life: afternoons filled with sunshine at the lake, grilling his famous charcoal chicken for his family, peaceful walks in prayer along the beach in Florida, and creating memories with the people he loved most. He was intentional with his time, his words, and his relationships.

Though he was a thoughtful scholar and theologian, Eric also had a playful spirit. He had a gift for making his children and grandchildren laugh, whether through a joke, a silly sound, or an unexpected moment of playfulness. Behind his humor was a deep sensitivity and care for others. He paid close attention to the people he loved and cherished the opportunity to create moments they would remember.

An ordained minister and professor, Eric was a lifelong student of God’s Word. Curious and deeply thoughtful by nature, he dedicated his life to understanding, teaching, and sharing its truth with others. Through his ministry and writing, he passionately encouraged others to experience the power of God, embrace the transformative role of prayer, and pursue a deeper and more courageous faith. His kindness, wisdom and the love he so intentionally poured into others will continue to live on through all who knew him.

Eric loved singing, a passion inspired by his mother, Shirley, whom he accompanied to choir rehearsals in his early years. He greatly enjoyed traveling and singing with a men’s quartet for many years. He embraced life fully through running, a hobby he picked up later in life and passed on to his daughters. He completed 16 Boston Marathons and participated in the Pan-Mass Challenge, both raising money for cancer research.

Eric is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Cynthia; his children, Hannah and Rachel; his son-in-law Brian; his grandchildren, Bella and Logan, his brother, Paul Nelson; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Shirley Nelson.

A funeral celebrating Eric’s life and memory will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 2:00pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood Rd, Norfolk, MA 02056. All are welcome to attend.
