The non-profit Zullo Gallery-Center for the Arts is marking its one-year anniversary of purchasing its building on Main Street in Medfield by kicking off a series of "Summer Thursday" gatherings from 6 to 10 p.m. on July 16. These community get-togethers will then continue every other week until August 27 (exact dates are July 16 & 30, and Aug. 13 & 27).
Visitors to Summer Thursdays can enjoy a night out on the deck overlooking downtown Medfield. Offered for purchase will be a menu of innovative food options by local purveyor Perfect Strangers, as well as beer and wine. (The deck will be open weather-permitting; the gathering will move indoors, as needed.)
Beyond the 2025 building purchase that was made possible by generous donors who stepped up within a short, pressure-filled timeframe, the Zullo team is also celebrating numerous accomplishments. Over the past 12 months, a newly reconstituted board of directors, along with executive director Bill Pope, has:
• Developed a new visioning statement helping to set its future direction (thanks to a consultant funded by a Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund grant);
• Made significant gallery improvements;
• Received more than $110,000 in additional grants and matching funds;
• Hosted a variety of art exhibits;
• Introduced new, exciting programming for various ages (with more to come); and
• Launched a new website with streamlined donation processing, plus event and class ticketing with confirmations and reminders, and an easy-to-use online store for viewing art and making purchases.
Opening July 11 will be the newest exhibit, "MassArt Inspiration," featuring the work of recent Massachusetts College of Art graduates. The Zullo is also preparing for its ever-popular Juried Art Exhibit in the fall -- now in its 32nd year -- by launching a "call for art" to encourage submissions by the Aug. 19 deadline. Details on how to apply can be found at zullogallery.org/call-for-art-2026.
"The Zullo Gallery has a permanent home for the arts in the heart of Medfield thanks to an abundance of community support," said Pope. "We hope everyone can join us for our kick-off Summer Thursday on July 16 so we can celebrate all that we've accomplished, and show our appreciation in person!"
Founded in 1988, the Zullo Gallery is located at 456A Main St. (2nd floor) across from Medfield Town House and adjacent to Medfield Public Library.
The Zullo Gallery mission: To build community through art and culture by creating intimate and inclusive experiences that inspire creativity, foster connection and enrich everyday life.
