The town of Walpole is mourning the loss of one of its beloved sons, Thomas Henry Groden. Born August 24, 1948 in Cambridge, Tom was raised on Lewis Farm in Walpole as 6th of the 15 children of Harold M. Groden, M.D. and Helen (Perrault) Groden. He later raised his own family on Lewis Farm and was extremely involved in several sports leagues in town, all while serving as the Swimming & Diving Head Coach at Boston College for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Sara (Schwarz) Groden, as well as his daughters Susan McDonald and Erin Groden. He will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Abby (6) and Henry (4), as well as by his many siblings and countless nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Services for Tom was held at St. Mary’s Church on August 22, 2026 at 11:00am, immediately followed by a celebration of his extraordinary life at his home.
