Big Blue looks ahead to postseason

By Meghan Foley

Boys’ basketball has been having a fantastic season. On February 3rd, Big Blue took only their second loss of the season, for the first time since December 28th. This brought their record to a 13–2 following a 10 game win streak and has them sitting in 7th place in Division 3 as the postseason draws closer. With the top 32 teams qualifying and only a few games left in the regular season, things are looking strong for Big Blue.

The loss was surprising, the team falling to Dover-Sherborn (7–7 at the time) 54–78 after beating them 58–46 at the beginning of the season. Their only other loss, the December 28th game against Lincoln-Sudbury, was by just two points. But Big Blue put the Dover-Sherborn game behind them and came back with a 74–46 win over Bellingham High three days later.

Last year, Medfield entered the postseason seeded 28th with a 12–8 regular season record and were eliminated in their second game by 5th-seeded Greater Lawrence Tech High 51–67. They’re in a much better position this year. While the final few games haven’t yet been decided, Big Blue has had an impressive season up until this point and are a team to watch when playoffs begin.

Big Blue’s next game will be this evening at 6:30 at Medway High School (9–8) after beating them 56–38 in mid-January. Then on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 16–17th), they will be participating in the Warrior Classic at Foxboro High. They will play their final game of the regular season on Friday, February 20th in the high school gym to play Holliston (12–5) at 4:00 after eking out a win over them in a close game a few weeks ago, 53–52.
