Chocolate Café to Support Dover-Sherborn Performing Arts Students

Dover-Sherborn Friends of the Performing Arts (FoPA) will host its popular Chocolate Café fundraiser on Sunday, February 1, from 1:00–4:30 p.m. at Lindquist Commons and Mudge Auditorium at Dover-Sherborn High School.

The afternoon event will feature performances by elementary, middle school, and high school performing arts groups, offering community members the opportunity to enjoy student talent while supporting arts education. The program will include jazz, choral, and drama performances by the Chickering and Pine Hill Jazz Bands; middle school jazz ensembles Jazz101 and Sharp9; the Dover-Sherborn High School Jazz Band; sixth- and seventh-grade chorus groups; the Regional Chorus; and a cappella groups A Choir’d Taste and DS Al Coda. Attendees will also enjoy selections from the Dover-Sherborn Middle School’s recent production of Willy Wonka, as well as a preview of the Dover-Sherborn High School drama group’s upcoming March musical, The Prince of Egypt.

Proceeds from Chocolate Café benefit the district’s theater, music, and performing arts programs. This year, fundraising efforts will focus in part on the purchase of a new timpani and on supporting the Regional Band and Chorus’s proposed trip to the Great East Festival in May.

Geoff Herrmann, musical director for both the middle school and high school choral programs, emphasized FoPA’s impact, saying, “Whether through guest artists and clinics, hosting events, or providing equipment, scholarships, transportation, and volunteer support, FoPA has been an instrumental partner over the years in making the Dover-Sherborn arts programs possible.”

In addition to the performances, attendees can enjoy a chocolate buffet featuring a chocolate fondue station and an ice cream sundae bar, along with a variety of raffle baskets and silent auction items. Chocolate Café offers a fun and relaxed way to support the arts and is open to the community, traditionally drawing families, students, and friends of the Dover-Sherborn performing arts programs.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at ds-fopa.squarespace.com or at the door.
