The Raiders had their first game of the regular season on December 12th when they beat the Nipmuc Regional Warriors 56–44 at home after being defeated by them 62–77 last year. But on the 16th, they fell to the Medway Mustangs 37–46 and then to the Medfield Warriors 46–58 on the 19th.

On December 23rd, the Raiders fought for another win while they were on the road against the Westwood Wolverines. Last year, they were 8–12 while Westwood was 15–7, Dover-Sherborn losing their matchup just 56–60. Entering this game, the Raiders were 1–2 and the Wolverines were 2–0.

Both teams were neck and neck for most of the game. Drawing to the end of the fourth quarter, a foul shot by senior Sam Weitzman brought the score to 40–46, with the Wolverines in the lead. Senior Ronan Sullivan made a steal on defense and brought the ball down the court for a layup. At 42–46, Dover-Sherborn head coach Rick Grady called a time-out with only 35 seconds left in the game. When they came back, Sophomore Giulian Mariano made a steal, going to the floor in Westwood’s end, but the refs called a travel. Mariano then rebounded a three-point shot by his teammate and sent it back to him for a second attempt, but the Raiders weren’t able to put away another basket, missing a layup in the final second of the game for a loss of 42–49.

Unfortunately, this was the only game between the Raiders and Wolverines this season. The Raiders’ next game will be at 6:30 on Tuesday, January 5th at Ashland High School, who they beat 75–29 last year. Then they will be looking for revenge, traveling to Norwood High School on Wednesday at 6:30 after last year’s 43–53 loss, and ending the week at Norton High on Friday at 6:30 after last season’s 48–50 and 44–55 games.
