Against the brick red of Medfield State Hospital, Bellforge hosted their Field Fest: Fall Music Showcase to celebrate fall in full swing. The chilly October night was alight with music, laughter, and cheer. What better way to enjoy the crisp autumn air and colorful leaves than with local music and good company.

After people settled with their barbecue and drinks, the event started off. First up was the Wolff Sisters, a band of three sisters from Boston. Sisters Rebecca, Rachael, and Kat (who was unable to make this performance) all share a love of music. They are described as having “big sound and timeless song” on their website, and it is an apt description.

The Wolff Sisters have a deep, soulful sound that has roots in traditional rock and Americana storytelling. Everything comes from within, sharing their stories in a melodical way. Rebecca and Rachael played guitar, acoustic and electric respectively, but created such a full sound to their music. Their song “Boston Town” was a particular hit in the crowd, hitting home with the locals. What was impressive was Rebecca just had a baby and still came to play with her sister.

Along with the music and food, there was plenty to do in the field. Kids were running and playing with hula hoops and a big Connect4 board, parents had cornhole to toss back and forth, and dogs were playing with fetch and making new friends with nearly anyone.

Cold Chocolate was up next, another Boston band comprised of Ariel Bernstein on the drums and Ethan Robbins on guitar. Their music is a mix of folk, funk, and bluegrass that brought an upbeat feeling to the event. Robbins surprised the crowd with a new song from their upcoming album that he wrote for his daughter when she was a baby. Parents in the crowd were nodding along; it resonated with them.

They brought humor too, like when encouraging the crowd “We’re at an abandoned asylum, gotta keep the energy up! Keep the ghosts at bay.” Thankfully, we didn’t see any spirits attending the show, but they made sure to keep them away with funky music that had kids dancing like mad.

The event closed with Rachael Wolff joining Cold Chocolate on stage for the last song. The performance was electric and had the crowd going home with a tune in their heads that would be difficult to get out. Be sure to check out Bellforge events, you may find a new favorite artist there.
