Sherborn celebrated its 350th anniversary throughout 2024, culminating in a heartfelt ceremony to bury a time capsule at the historic 1858 Town House. The capsule, filled with mementos of the yearlong celebrations and snapshots of life in 2024, is set to be unearthed by future Sherborn residents in 2074.
The large capsule contains a rich collection of memories from 2024, offering a glimpse into how the town marked this milestone year. School organizations, families, and town officials contributed memorabilia, ensuring the capsule captures the essence of life in Sherborn. Items included posters, shirts, stickers, letters, documents, and photos of long-time residents and families.
Each major event from the year’s celebrations was represented in the capsule. Highlights included keepsakes from Brew Fest, Sherbstock, the antique car show, and the Fire and Water Festival. The carefully curated contents were designed to showcase not only the events themselves but also the spirit of the town and its people.
The ceremony unveiling the time capsule was a heartfelt moment for the community. Residents shared fond memories of growing up in Sherborn and expressed hope for the town’s future. A plaque marking the capsule’s location, just outside the doors of the 1858 Town House, was unveiled by two local children, who expressed their wish to be present when it is opened in 2074.
Inside the 1858 Town House, a special exhibit titled 2024 in Review was set up, featuring photos, news clippings, and memorabilia from the year’s events. The display allowed residents to reflect on the many celebrations and milestones that honored Sherborn’s history. Attendees spent the morning mingling with friends and neighbors while enjoying warm cider, coffee, and treats.
