Residents gathered at Medfield High School on Sunday to participate in the 19th annual MFi Angel Run, hosted by the Medfield Foundation Inc. Proceeds from the event support local nonprofit initiatives.
Despite the recent cold weather, Sunday brought sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures of 46 degrees. Bibs, shirts, and swag items were available for pickup from Friday evening through Sunday morning before the race. Early registrants received commemorative Angel Run shirts, while participants who raised $250 or more were awarded drawstring bags, LED safety running lights, or Angel Run winter hats.
Participants were invited to take photos with Christmas-themed inflatables set up around the high school and with Santa Claus, portrayed by Bob Bond. Light refreshments, including donuts, coffee, water, and juice, were also available.
Greg, the event’s emcee, energized the crowd before the 5K run and thanked volunteers, including members of the Medfield High School Student Council, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, SEPAC, People to People, Medfield Foundation Youth Leaders, and youth volunteers from St. Edward’s Church. He also noted the water stations and live performances along the course by Montrose School Treblemakers, Trills and Chills, MHS Soundwaves, MHS Chamber Strings, and the MHS Cheerleaders.
Before the race began, Medfield High School student Vivienne Ladd performed the national anthem. Greg reminded participants to exercise caution near the finish line due to patches of ice and snow.
The 5K featured a single start, with runners encouraged to begin at the front and walkers at the back. Dan Donato was the top male finisher with a time of 17:32, and Eva Derendorf was the top female finisher with a time of 21:08.
Congratulations to all participants in this year’s Angel Run.
