WPL hosts annual Halloween party for families

The Walpole Public Library’s (WPL) Teen Advisory Board hosted their annual Halloween party for local children of all ages.

The event kicked off with a costume parade in the children’s room as kids dressed up as the likes of superheroes, princesses, monsters, and cartoon characters marched to the beat of “This is Halloween,” from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Children smiled and waved to their family members as they weaved through the aisles of books and eventually made their way through the library and into the community room.

The children were then greeted by Favor Nyende, JJ Butters, Shayna Jain, Gwen Hoofers, Sienna Ddungu, and Sarah Alexord of The Walpole High School Chamber Group who played a variety of famous Halloween songs, such as the tune from Ghostbusters and Phantom of the Opera. The group filled the October night with the soothing sounds of cellos and violins, as the children were invited to engage in a variety of activities.

The Teen Advisory Board hosted ghoulish games in the community room such as skeleton bowling, eyeball basketball, glow stick ring toss, and skeleton hand/pumpkin egg walk complete with a tricky maze for attendees to weave their way through. Children collected tickets from each station and were then invited to the children’s craft room to pick from a variety of prizes, such as tattoos, pencils, and stickers. The community room also hosted a dazzling hand crafted haunted house which provided photo opportunities for families.

Within the craft room the Teen Advisory Board provided tattoos, coloring pages, sticker crafts, and a Halloween themed sensory table, that included mini skeletons, plastic skulls, spider rings, pompoms, and eyeballs. There was a spooky scavenger hunt around the children’s room that many families hunted through the library to complete, as well as a book themed scavenger hunt in the craft room.

The Teen Advisory Board worked tirelessly to put on this magical event for the younger children of Walpole and it is safe to say by all the smiling faces and happy families that this event was a success.
