The Center at the Heights in Needham (CATH) always has something going on to get local seniors involved. Recently they hosted an ice cream social sponsored by Wingate, a local senior living community.
This ice cream social brought in countless people looking to celebrate the end of summer with their friends. The cafe was packed with groups of friends chatting about their sundaes and their upcoming fall plans. Everyone designed their sundae slightly differently with the variety of toppings available.
Each person was offered chocolate, vanilla or Neapolitan ice cream which they could pile up with their choices of toppings. Chocolate and caramel sauces were offered along with sprinkles and whipped cream. To top off the sweet creations Oreo cookies were offered, which many took the chance to enjoy.
While setting up, so many people wanted to partake in enjoying ice cream with friends the CATH had to open the cafe up into the meeting room. More tables were brought in to accommodate the ever-growing crowd. Within the crowd, a few birthdays were being celebrated and the whole room broke out into song to honor them.
The cafe was alive with energy as people bustled through to partake in a sweet frozen treat. Groups of friends waved at each other and shouted across the room to get the attention of someone as they walked in. Each table slowly grew in capacity as the afternoon rolled on accommodating more friends and soon to be friends.
The ice cream social brought together the entire CATH community for an end of summer celebration. Conversation filled the whole building about how everyone built their sundaes and what plans they had for the upcoming weeks. The CATH hosts events and classes for the seniors of the community and there is something for everyone looking to get involved.
