The 2023 Spring season proved to be a phenomenal period for Medfield student-athletes, characterized by exceptional talent, impressive wins, and unwavering determination to compete at the highest level. Athletes understand the challenges inherent in their pursuits, but they also recognize the intrinsic rewards of pushing themselves to excel and derive enjoyment from their endeavors.
Numerous athletes achieved significant success in the post-season this year, striving tirelessly to secure state titles. Although the Warriors faced formidable competition and fell short in some instances, they left an indelible mark, breaking records, defending their team with fervor, and ultimately reaping the rewards of their hard work. These achievements were exemplified by the acquisition of TVL All-Star titles, serving as a fitting culmination to the 2022-2023 season.
The Medfield lacrosse programs enjoyed exceptional seasons, with the girls' team concluding their campaign with an impressive 17-3 record, securing the #2 spot in the Division II competition. Junior Midfielder Kelly Blake, named the TVL Large MVP, and All-Star First Team titles, spearheaded their success. Additionally, Senior Midfielder Alex Blake and Junior Attack Alex Proefrock earned TVL Large All-Star First Team honors. The league also acknowledged the dedication and grit of four other Warriors: Izzy Kittredge, Harper Foscaldo, Cassie McDonald, and Maeve Kelly.
The Boys' lacrosse program also made a significant impact, concluding their season with a 12-6 record and an 11-1 TVL Large record. They claimed the TVL Large Championship title and entered the post-season with confidence. Six players were named TVL Large All-Stars for the 2023 season: Kevin Arthur, Matt George, Tim Collins, Mike Long, Ben Lusby, and Joe Bartolotta. Additionally, the league recognized the exceptional efforts of four more athletes: Will Griffin, Braeden Sutton, Carter DePiero, and Chase Coughlin.
Tennis showcased its remarkable talent as well, with the girls' team finishing with a 12-4 record, a 12-3 TVL Large record, and a #6 ranking in the division III competition entering the post-season. Two TVL All-Stars emerged from the girls' team: Mary Palladino and Juliet Lane, recognized for their impressive performance and drive in the sport.
As for boys' tennis, the competition remained fierce even after the conclusion of the regular season. The boys achieved a commendable 10-6 record and a 10-4 TVL Large record, progressing to the round of 8 in the playoffs. Warren Churchill, Alec Borman, Will Bowen, and Nathan DePaola were named TVL Large All-Stars, while Ben Grenon earned a TVL Large honorable mention.
Boys Volleyball experienced a standout season, concluding with an incredible 14-0 league record and an 18-1 overall record. As they headed into the post-season, they secured a ninth-place ranking in the Division II competition. Adam Madej was honored as the TVL MVP All-Star, accompanied by Jake Koterba and Caleb Garverich, who also earned TVL All-Star titles. Michael Korbin, Hayden Hillenmeyer, and Matt Herbst received honorable mentions from the league.
Baseball and Softball added to the competitive atmosphere this season, with the baseball team blazing their own trail to the state championship. They achieved a commendable 14-5 record and a 12-4 league record, entering the playoffs ranked second in the Division III competition. Jack Collins was named the TVL Large MVP All-Star, alongside Scott Donahue, who earned an All-Star title. Sebastian Lacruz-Valiente, Alex Munz, and Nick Hasapidis received honorable mentions from the league.
The Softball team, consisting of talented girls, concluded their season with a 10-8 record and a 9-6 league record. They entered the Division III post-season competition ranked 20th. Kaelyn Larkin claimed the TVL Large MVP and All-Star title, joined by Jess Coletti, Kendall Larkin, and Brooke Lyons as All-Stars for the season. Tess Baacke, Chloe Hunt, and Jordan Iovino were named honorable mentions by the league, recognizing their commitment to the sport and growth throughout the season.
In the final tally, the boys' and girls' track and field teams achieved a record of 2-3. Audrey Callahan and Ella Kane were both named TVL Large All-Stars for the girls' team, while Julian Ram-Tylerbest, Aidan Ryan, and Andrew Barr received All-Star recognition for the boys' team.
It was truly an awe-inspiring season, providing the opportunity to witness and share the outstanding talent possessed by these young athletes. Hometown Weekly is elated to have been a part of this thrilling action and eagerly anticipates the talent that will be on display in the upcoming fall season.
