The Center welcomed spring with entertainment and dessert. On March 23rd, only three days after the first day of Spring, COA staff hosted an ice cream social, which was perfectly paired by a fan-favorite performer, Patrick Durkin.
While Durkin played the keys and serenaded the crowd, COA staff members worked behind the scenes to create hot fudge sundaes for all of the attendees. After the frozen treats were served, the seniors savored their ice cream and the melodies that filled the afternoon.
Durkin played tunes such as “What A Wonderful World,” by Louis Armstrong, “L-O-V-E,” by Nat King Cole, the classic cowboy song, “Home on the Range,” and “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head,” which was made famous by BJ Thomas, just to name a few.
“We love to have music,” COA Director Sarah Hannifan shared, as The Center periodically features musical events for the seniors' delight. “He is one of our favorites, the seniors love when he comes.”
It was easy to see why Durkin is a fan favorite. Not only did he have an impressive musical repertoire, but his rendition of “Theme from New York, New York,” by Frank Sinatra truly won the crowd over. Many seniors sang and clapped along to this popular tune.
“I love all the dancing feet in this room!” Hannifan exclaimed. It was plain to see with the dancing feet, clapping hands, and singing along that Durkin had brought so much joy to this crowd.
“I think spring has finally arrived and I’m really happy about that!” Durkin shared with the crowd. What a delightful way to kick off spring and the warm weather; with ice cream and a wonderful performance.
