The Summer on Stone program, a weekday camp designed for children ages four to eleven, is currently in full swing in the center of town. The program, run by Walpole Recreation Department, runs for six weeks.

Ready for the Olympics, each team color is represented with some stylish outfits and props.

Last Tuesday, counselors and campers were outside for sports activities. They warmed up with morning yoga.

“They get the opportunity to go over to the new playground," Walpole Recreation Coordinator Rich Lamoury explains. "This is the first return to camp, post-COVID. Restrictions have been lifted so there’s about seventy kids a week here at camp.”

Lamoury praised the attitude of the staff, as well as the campers. “Some of them will know friends, some are new. It’s important our staff is outgoing and involved with the kids, making sure kids are having a blast. They’re very engaged, and at the end of the day we want them to be role models for the kids.”

Everyone takes turns mixing the puffy paint to the correct shade.

As the week progressed, campers enjoyed a variety of games and projects to entertain them. Wednesday was arts-and-crafts-focused, complete with slime, DIY puffy paint, and even a science lesson about lava lamps.

Thursday began the infamous water balloon drop, during which children were given the instructions to make a water drop contraption from only the materials they were given. Various items included popsicle sticks, paper plates and rubber bands.

The week culminated with the much-anticipated Summer Olympics. Each Olympic team dressed up in their group's color and showed their spirit. A range of fun outdoor activities, like a relay race, sponge toss, hula hoop relay and potato sack race, made for a great conclusion to the week.

Camp activities run through the end of summer, as well as pool parties and sponsored outdoor concerts. Visit Walpole Recreation for further details: www.walpolerecreation.com
