On Thursday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. there will be a public hearing regarding the future of two Norfolk county-owned pieces of land located in Walpole. These 25 acres of land located at 1377 North Street and 400 Main Street.
According to the public hearing notice, "The County of Norfolk proposes to lease Premises #1 and Premises #2 to Kearsage Energy LLC for the respective construction and installation of a 5 megawatt AC ground-mounted solar photovoltaic ("PV") and a 1 megawatt AC ground-mounted solar photovoltaic ("PV"), both for a time period of 20 years."
While the solar farm would aid the county in meeting several of its goals regarding reducing the county's carbon footprint, those against the solar farm argue that these pieces of land are some of the few remaining open green spaces in Walpole.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the public hearing will be available via Zoom. Those who wish to access it on November 19 can do so by using this link.
