Walpole celebrates 4th with a bang

On Monday, July 3, Walpole celebrated Independence Day as it has for over fifty years: with a parade, festivities, and fireworks.

The celebrations began around 6 p.m. as the town’s Fire Engine Parade began making its way from East Walpole Fire Station down Washington Street and East Street before finally emerging in the center of town and concluding by Blackburn Park.

There, the parade gave way to a fair behind the fire station, complete with food and drink vendors, live music, and smiling local families aplenty. As the grounds filled with lawn chairs, blankets, boisterous children, and patriotic colors, the sun set, filling the crowd with anticipation for the long weekend’s highlight.

Finally, as darkness engulfed the town and revelers, the annual fireworks display began, bathing Town Hall and Blackburn Memorial Park in multicolored flashes. “Oohs” and “aahs” escaped from the gallery as attendees enjoyed the grand display - and celebrated the nation’s founding - in the heart of Walpole.
