Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse’s New Year’s party

[ccfic caption-text format="plaintext"]

The Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse is an opportunity for spoken word artists to share their poetry, stories, and songs. New Year’s Eve will be a special coffeehouse, featuring international folk dancing with The Larger Circle Band.

The Larger Circle Band was formed about a year ago when members of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Medfield realized they shared a love of international folk music.

Their leader, Fritz Fleischmann, is a virtuoso violinist who has been in similar folk bands for dozens of years. Their name comes from the poem of the same name by Wendell Berry, who says: “We clasp the hands of those that go before us/And the hands of those who come after us./Whose hands are joined in a dance.”

In addition to the Larger Circle Band, there will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts, a cash bar, chances to share a poem, story, or song in the open mic, and the opportunity to learn to dance.

Open mic readers will have five minutes to share. Teens and adults are welcome. The event is sponsored by Starbucks of Medfield.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church on 26 North Street. Tickets are $10 in advance for adults ($12 at door), $5 Children under 12. Tickets to the evening are available at First Parish and at the Holistic Wellness Center at 38C Park Street.
