Students at Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole welcomed Cardinal Seán O'Malley to the school on April 28.
The visit was a part of the Blessed Sacrament’s 50th anniversary celebration. During the visit, a student-choir led songs, and students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 participated as readers, cantors, and altar servers.
After celebrating Mass at the school, Cardinal O’Malley toured the school with Principal Jim Spillman, visiting every classroom and personally wishing the students and teachers a happy 50th Anniversary year.
"Our school's 50th Anniversary Mass with Cardinal Sean was a special culmination of this celebratory year,” said Principal Jim Spillman. “As principal, it was rewarding to showcase our students and school to the Cardinal during his visit.”
He continued, “I think that he was able to get a good sense of what we mean at BSS when we talk about fostering ‘academic and spiritual excellence’ - namely, that we are a school that strives to develop engaged and determined learners who have strong character and a genuine empathy for others,”
The Cardinal O'Malley visit was one of several special events the school has hosted to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The school had previously hosted an alumni reception in November, and a special anniversary dinner and auction that raised over $95,000.
