Paul Christian to read at Library

The Needham Free Public Library will host retired Boston Fire Commissioner Paul A. Christian, author of "South Boston on Parade," on Thursday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the Library’s Community Room.

In this most enjoyable and informative work, author Paul Christian traces the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade’s history from 1901 to the present, through hundreds of photographs and historical details. He guides readers through the several changes that have occurred over the past century, from a march commemorating George Washington’s first military victory, to a procession celebrating Irish heritage and the Patron Saint of Ireland, to a general day of good cheer. “The Evacuation Day/Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is an integral part of South Boston,” says Robert Allison, President of the South Boston Historical Society, with this book being “the definitive history of the Evacuation Day/Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.”

Paul A. Christian is the retired former Commissioner and Chief of Department for the Boston Fire Department. His book will be available for purchase and autographing following the presentation. This event is sponsored by the Needham Free Public Library. For further information, call the library at (781-455-7559).
