‘Shrek’ coming to Dover-Sherborn

The world’s most popular, beloved, and only green ogre is taking his adventures to the stage with “Shrek the Musical.” He is surrounded with all of the characters from Far Far Away, and many others helping or hurting his seemingly impossible “happy ending.” The musical is full of catchy songs, lively dance numbers, and eye-popping special effects.

In keeping with the long standing tradition of Dover-Sherborn Middle School productions, the attention to detail of stage settings, costumes, and quick makeup changes make for a magical evening for all ages. The magic of this unique production requires an army of backstage makeup artists (parent and student volunteers) helping humans become ogres, princesses and other fairytale creatures.

Liana Morgens, one of the parent make-up volunteers, does an amazing job with making D-S’ middle school students look like green ogres. She uses a special product called Ogre Green Creamblend, made by the Mehron Theatrical Co., who manufactures it officially for Dreamworks Shrek. The real challenge will be attaching the prosthetics (such as the cowl and nose) when they arrive. That will be done using a special product called Pros-Aide.
In addition, she includes a combination of red and black liner for his eyes, and applying brown spots on the skin. Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets, dragons, and more.

There will be four performances of “Shrek: The Musical” at Dover-Sherborn’s Mudge Auditorium from Thursday, December 8 through Saturday, December 10, including a Saturday matinee.

This year, the center middle section of the lower auditorium will be sold as reserved seats ($18). All other seats will remain general admission ($15). Reserved seats will be available only on ticketstage.com beginning November 14 at 10:00 a.m. General admission tickets will be available on ticketstage.com, at the Dover Market, and Sherborn Walgreens.
