Recently, The Westwood Young Women’s Club hosted a Touch-a-Truck event at the Westwood High School. This event encourages kids and families to learn about the different trucks, cars and machines they may see around town and interact with the people who drive them.

Gathered in the parking lot were 15 vehicles for children to engage with including police cars, fire trucks, construction machines, town maintenance vehicles, local business delivery trucks and more. Children were able to climb into these vehicles and learn how the lights, sirens and horns worked. Parents assisted their children in and out of the big cars, while laughing along with this kids and taking countless photos.

Stationed with each truck was a member of each industry to educate children and parents on what they do for the town. This helps children start to understand how important police, firefighters and construction trucks are to the well-being of Westwood. Meeting the people behind the cars can also show children they don’t have to be scared by the bright lights and loud noises they associate with the trucks because they are only there to help.

Beyond the trucks, the Westwood Young Women’s Club offered countless activities for the attendants. These activities included games where kids were tasked with throwing rings onto cones, temporary tattoos, dancing and crafts. Chase from “Paw Patrol” even made a guest appearance with the Westwood Police Department. Having other activities also allowed children to take turns with the vehicles and not crowd each other.

Countless families turned up for this event and filled the parking lot with kids ready and willing to learn about the different vehicles. Touch-a-Truck events help introduce younger children to the protectors and key pieces of their communities in a low-stress environment. They are able to interact with vehicles they usually only see from afar and meet some of the most important people in Westwood.

The Westwood Young Women’s Club hosts events all year long throughout Westwood that are fun for all ages. They have hosted many Touch a Truck in the past and this one was just as amazing as all the others.
