WestwoodWinds, Westwood’s community concert band, invites all Westwood-area musicians to participate in its seventh concert season.
Rehearsals are scheduled on six consecutive Mondays from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Westwood High School Band Room starting on June 13.
The first rehearsal is an “Open House” where any interested musician can sit in with no obligation to join.
WestwoodWinds will perform a public concert Monday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Westwood High School Cafeteria Court Yard. Additional concerts will be held at Fox Hill Village, August 2 and on Westwood Day, September 24.
WestwoodWinds will be featuring a special guest at one of its concerts. Ron Della Chiesa, the narrator of Boston Symphony Orchestra WGBH-FM radio concerts and of his own Strictly Sinatra radio show on WPLM-FM. will be narrating our August 8 concert.
Della Chiesa is very knowledgeable about Frank Sinatra, the American Song Book and Classical music.
James Giurleo, former Westwood Public Schools K-12 Director of Performing Arts, first organized WestwoodWinds the summer of 2009. Under his direction, musicians ranging in age between 14 and 80 with skill levels spanning amateur through professional, performed rousing concerts each year since.
I look forward to greeting returning band members and look forward to meeting new ones,” Giurleo said, reflecting on the past four years of WestwoodWinds. “Many members are my former students and it is wonderful to see how music still plays such a powerful role in their lives.
He continued, “WestwoodWinds is a great way to bring back the joy of making music with neighbors and friends. Anyone who successfully participated in their high school band will feel comfortable with the musical challenges of WestwoodWinds.”
