Bridgewater State University senior Sheila O’Sullivan was selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on February 13. O’Sullivan posted the top distance in the weight throw at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships held at the University of Southern Maine on February 11. The Westwood, Massachusetts recorded a career-best mark of 50 feet, 4.75 inches (15.36m) as she captured both the MASCAC and Alliance titles, breaking the BSU record in the process.
O’Sullivan also placed fifth among MASCAC throwers in the shot put with a career-best toss of 35 feet, five inches (10.79m).
Captain of the BSU Indoor and Outdoor Track teams for each of the past two seasons, O’Sullivan again has qualified for Division III New England Championships (to be held this year on February 18 at MIT) and the NCAA Regional Championships (February 24 at Tufts) in the weight throw. Sheila has finished all of her classwork and this semester is doing her student teaching at the Martha Jones School, where she is learning from Master Physical Education instructor Mr. Foley and sharing her wisdom and knowledge with the youth of Westwood, including her cousins, Lyla and Liam Hayes.
