The delegates elected at the caucus will go on to meet with Democrats from across Massachusetts to adopt a new Action Agenda. The convention will be held on Saturday, June 4 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.
The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in Westwood and the Democratic Committee welcomes participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret.
Candidates for delegate and alternate must consent to nomination in writing and must be present at the caucus. In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates.
“This is going to be an exciting year as we Massachusetts Democrats work on the presidential election, both here in Massachusetts and across the country,” commented Democratic National Committee Woman, Kate Donoghue. “In addition to the normal proceedings, the June convention is going to focus on training in party building, electoral techniques and issue-based organizing.”
Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited. Challenges to the delegate selection process can be filed with the Massachusetts Democratic Party, 77 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02110 no later than ten days after the caucus date.
After the caucus is completed and adjourned, the Westwood Democratic Town Committee members who are present will vote to elect new members to the committee. All members of the Westwood Town Committee must be enrolled as Democrats at the time of election. There are several vacancies on the town committee roster.
