Westwood Early Childhood Council joined communities across the state to celebrate the statewide initiative of “Brain Building In Progress.” This campaign aims to bring communities together to focus on early education and the positive impact of meaningful, intentional interaction between parent/caregiver and child.
The Council sponsored an Earth Day Celebration on April 26 at Westwood Main Library. Families with young children joined staff from local early education and care programs to engage in science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Families discovered and explored with hands on learning provided by MMO Nursery School, St. John’s Nursery School, The Tobin School, Westwood Children’s School, Westwood Montessori School, Westwood Nursery School, Westwood Public Integrated Preschool.
The Early Childhood Council introduced Little Free Libraries to the Westwood Community with a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 28 at the School St. Playground. Families with children of all ages attended the event to play and read together and learn more about this free take a book leave a book community exchange. All community members and visitors are welcome to utilize the Little Free Libraries located at School St. Playground and the Tot Lot on Nahatan St.
High School sophomores Madi Brady and Hannah Shaby used their creative talents to decorate the little free library structures that are now installed and waiting for readers. The Foundation for Westwood Education provided the funding for this project. Little Free Libraries aim to build community and a life-long love for reading.
