The Boy Scouts of Troop 1 Islington will be celebrating two very significant events on Saturday, April 2.
Three current Scouts will attain the rank of Eagle Scout at an afternoon Court of Honor at the Islington Community Center.
Matthew Mason’s Eagle Scout Project was for The Town of Dedham Trails Program. Matthew restored a 2.0-mile loop trail in the Dedham Town Forest, located between the North and Southbound lanes of Route 95, that needed significant clearing and trail marking.
For his Eagle Project, Matthew Wagner built a footbridge across a stream in Dedham’s Whitcomb Woods. Matthew replaced a large rock that had been used as a stepping stone and he also cleared the trail on either side of the bridge.
Jared Lam’s Eagle Scout Project was for Hale Reservation Day Camp in Westwood. Jared helped to remove two gaga ball pits that had fallen into disrepair, completely reconstructing the two hexagonal wooden pits in order to improve safety and fun for campers.
The Troop’s celebration will continue in the evening with a 90th Anniversary Gala at the German-American Club (Boylston Schul-Verein) in Walpole.
The Troop is one of the oldest in Massachusetts.
Alumni are encouraged to attend the Gala, which will take place from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. The event will feature dinner, entertainment, and silent auction to raise funds for a new equipment trailer.
