With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Westwood Council on Aging (COA) hosted a Thanksgiving Luncheon this past Wednesday, November 15th. Members were able to sign up to enjoy a full feast of delicious food including turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings.
The room was beautifully decorated with Thanksgiving themed decor, featuring plates, napkins, table cloths, and more. Each seat had cutlery wrapped in a festive napkin and a goodie bag filled with some sweet treats like Snickers and Hershey Kisses. Throughout the luncheon, seniors had the opportunity to listen to the musical stylings by guitarist Chris Carter.
Over forty members filled the COA, eager to eat some of this delicious thanksgiving meal and there sure was a lot to choose from! Along with the turkey and stuffing, there was salad, sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce and gravy. In order to keep everything running smoothly, each table was called up one at a time.
As an added bonus, there were apple and pumpkin pie slices handed out for dessert. Many COA members commented that they were so stuffed from this luncheon, they may not eat until Thanksgiving!
Once the meal was over, it was time for a special raffle that included prizes of Godiva Chocolates and Dunkin Donuts gift cards. There were three winners in total, all of which were thrilled to have been randomly selected to receive each prize.
As a whole, this luncheon was a huge success. Everyone raved over how delicious the food was and certainly enjoyed the company of all their friends. This was the perfect way to celebrate the holiday with one another and mingle amongst themselves. Director of the Westwood COA, Lina Arena-DeRosa, could not have been more excited with how everything turned out. Before dismissing for the rest of the afternoon, she made sure to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
