This past Wednesday, July 17th the Westwood Council on Aging (COA) hosted an Ice Cream Social with State Representative Paul McMurtry and his interns. Members gathered together around 1pm to enjoy some delicious ice cream all while hearing from McMurtry himself.
Before COA members settled into their seats, they were welcome to grab a cup of Ron’s Ice Cream and load it up with their favorite toppings. At the table, McMurtry’s interns helped pile on hot fudge, cherries, sprinkles, whipped cream, strawberries, walnuts, mini M&Ms and oreos into their cups. Seniors certainly splurged with their individual ice cream cups as they so rightfully deserved!
Once everyone had their ice creams in hand, McMurtry introduced himself, his fellow interns and his Legislative Aid Jen. These five interns will be working at many public service and civic engagement events. This program allows young people to step out within their communities and build lasting relationships with the residents throughout.
His five interns included Joseph Foppiano-McCarthy from Westwood, Andrea Maalouf from Westwood, Reilly Harrington from Westwood, Toby Gauld from Lexington and Aditya Patel from Framingham. Once introductions had concluded, Director of the Westwood COA Lina Arena-DeRosa, thanked them for being there and for the excellent work they do out within the Westwood community.
As seniors snacked on their ice cream, these interns could be seen mingling with them, getting to know a little bit about each other. With yet another heat wave making its way through New England, a cold treat was the perfect hit for this afternoon. All in attendance could be seen smiling, laughing and conversing with one another. COA members look forward to this same tradition this time next year!
