Registration is now open for the ninth annual Westwood Kids Pan-Mass Challenge, which will take place this year on May 22 from 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Martha Jones School.
The annual Kids PMC is held in Westwood to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, and is designed to give Westwood’s youth an opportunity to join the fight against cancer.
This year, a number of routes will be offered for children between the ages of 4-15 to participate in.
Alexa's Obstacle Course, named after Alexa Kelly, a survivor and fifth grade Deerfield Student. The route is designed for kids 4 and younger to participate while older sibling are riding.
Allisa's 1-mile ride, which is named after Allisa, a Hanlon 3rd grader currently battling brain cancer. The ride is perfect for kids just starting out on a bike.
Perfect ride for kids just starting to ride a bike
Five for Fighting - 5-mile ride. The Five for Fighting route is a 5-mile ride through the neighborhoods of Westwood.
Westwood Strong - 10-mile ride. A 10-mile ride for those who want a real challenge. It's the 5-mile doubled.
This year the Deerfield Fifth Grade will be hosting a car wash on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Westwood High.
Half of the proceeds from the day will be given to the PMC in honor of their classmate, Alexa Kelly.
Alexa was diagnosed with t-cell leukemia in April 2010. She would have to be in the hospital for 5-6 weeks undergoing intense chemotherapy and then go through 2 years of outpatient treatment.
After being in the hospital for six weeks she was welcomed home by going to the PMC ride where they began Alexa's awesome obstacle course in her honor.
Consider being part of this special day- come clean your car, ride your bike or simply help out by being a virtual rider and fundraise online.
