Little ones and their guardians gathered at the Islington Branch of the Westwood Public Library (WPL) in the evening to partake in a pajama story time. This cozy event included a night of stories and songs designed to help children expend some energy and relax before bedtime.
Attendees gathered in Wentworth Hall, with the children sporting their comfiest pajamas alongside their favorite stuffed animals. WPL Librarian Miss Karen streamlined the event and welcomed everyone with a heartfelt smile.
At the beginning of the story time, Miss Karen sang the “Hello Friends Sign Language” song for all to participate in. She then led the “wiggly worm hiding under a book” activity on the felt board.
The PJ story time focused on caterpillars and butterflies. Miss Karen read books such as “How Does a Caterpillar Change?”, “Waiting for Wings,” and “Ten Little Caterpillars.”
As an interactive part of the story time, Miss Karen passed around colorful scarves for each child to use while singing songs. They sang a butterfly song, “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes,” and a bedtime version of “Shake Your Sillies Out.”
After collecting the scarves, Miss Karen shared one of her all-time favorite stories, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” She used the felt board throughout, with different felt pieces representing everything the caterpillar ate, including an apple, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges, cake, ice cream, cheese, a pickle, and a cupcake. This was a huge hit with the children, who knew the story well.
The pajama story time was a major success, with children of all ages leaving tired and ready for bed. For more information about upcoming story times at the WPL, please visit their website at www.westwoodlibrary.org.
